McCLINTOCK, Justice.
On September 19, 1974 the Union Pacific Railroad Company damaged a bridge overpassing its railroad track on the eastbound lanes of U.S. Interstate Highway 80. This necessitated rerouting all traffic over the westbound corridor, thereby creating a two-lane highway over a short span of roadway, including another bridge.
