Plaintiff Lindsey is an assistant professor in the College of Education at the University of Georgia. Before the 1977-78 academic year he was employed for seven consecutive years under a series of one-year contracts. In July 1976 the university notified him that he would not be offered a contract for 1977-78. Lindsey brought this action under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, alleging that the nonrenewal was a result of his exercise of rights guaranteed...
