Defendant appealed to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, from his conviction of stealing a motor vehicle and the resultant five-year sentence. The court of appeals by opinion transferred the case here for the purpose of reexamining the law with reference to the propriety of asking a defendant on cross-examination whether he has committed a particular crime as contrasted to whether he has been convicted of a particular crime...
