The defendant Joseph Watson was convicted of the murder in the first degree of Marshall Joseph Ely. After entering his appeal in this court, he filed a motion for a new trial pursuant to G.L.c. 278, § 29, resting in part on the alleged recantation by one of the Commonwealth's main witnesses of the testimony she had given at the defendant's trial.
