Eleven-year-old Dirickson Nutt fell down an apartment elevator shaft. For injuries sustained, Dirickson and his father, as next friend, sued Westinghouse Electric Corporation (Westinghouse) alleging negligence in design and maintenance of the elevator.1 The jury found in favor of the Nutts, awarding a verdict of $150,000.
