Plaintiff husband (plaintiff) was dismissed from his tenured position as a professor at Whitman College. Plaintiff sued for reinstatement and for $2 million damages for libel and damage to his professional standing. The libel claim was dismissed upon defendants' summary judgment motion and was not appealed.
