In January of the current year John G. Merz and Highland Dunes Scotch Investors-Federal, Inc., a corporation controlled by Merz and his wife, were convicted in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota (The Honorable Harry H. MacLaughlin, District Judge) of a violation of the federal mail fraud statute, 18 U.S.C. § 1341. Merz was sentenced to imprisonment for five years and was fined $1,000.00. The corporate defendant...
