On August 27, 1976, Cosmos Broadcasting Corporation of Louisiana, Inc. ("Cosmos"), owner of WDSU-TV, fired its weatherman, Mr. Clem Gendron ("Gendron"). The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists ("AFTRA") filed a grievance on his behalf, and when efforts to effect a settlement failed, demanded binding arbitration as provided for in the Cosmos-AFTRA contract.
