On the night of July 20, 1973, at 10:50 p. m., M/V FARMSUM, on a course up the Mississippi River, collided with the Governor Nicholls Street Wharf in the Port of New Orleans and caused $35,000 in damages to the wharf. The owner of the wharf, the Board of Commissioners, brought suit in rem against M/V FARMSUM and in personam against the vessel's owner and operator, N. V. Stoomvaart-Maatschaapij "Oostzee."
