After a jury trial in the Fourteenth Judicial District Court, Parish of Calcasieu, Louisiana, the petitioner, Felix Stroud Hammontree, was convicted of negligent homicide in violation of Louisiana Revised Statutes 14:32. He was sentenced to five years hard labor in the custody of the Louisiana Department of Corrections and is presently in the respondent's custody serving that sentence.
