Defendant was charged with armed robbery (R.S. 14:64) by bill of information and convicted of that crime after a jury trial. Before sentencing, the state filed an habitual offender bill pursuant to R.S. 15:529.1 and, upon proof in conformity with that statutory provision, defendant was adjudged an habitual offender and sentenced to one hundred ninety-eight years at hard labor.
