The appellant was indicted for the first degree murder of his mother. In response to the indictment he entered pleas of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. Defense counsel's pretrial motion for a psychiatric evaluation was granted and the appellant was ordered to a state mental hospital for observation and evaluation.
