On the evening of June 7, 1976, appellant shot and killed his mother in the kitchen of the home where she was residing. The death weapon was a 22 bolt action rifle which belonged to his father. Appellant was convicted of murder in the first degree and the jury fixed his punishment at life imprisonment in the penitentiary.
