On August 17, 1975, Bennie T. Evans was employed as a security guard at Central State Hospital, Milledgeville, Georgia. He sustained an injury arising out of and in the course of his employment when he was shot in the right chest by an inmate, fell against a brick wall and onto the concrete floor.
