Ben and Lucille Purdy, from near DeWitt, were returning from a trip to Louisiana when their vehicle was involved in an accident with a Missouri Pacific Railroad Company train. The accident occurred just after dark on December 14, 1975, in Montrose, Arkansas, a small town in Ashley County. Missouri Pacific had a train stopped on a spur track across Highway 165 in Montrose.
