CROCKETT, Justice:

Defendant George David Mellen appeals from his conviction by a jury of aggravated kidnapping1 and aggravated sexual assault.2 He contends that the trial court committed prejudicial error: (1) in becoming adversarial in questioning a defense witness; and (2) in excluding the testimony of two lay defense witnesses offered in support of his defense of insanity.
