Defendant was brought to trial on September 26, 1977, on an information charging him with twenty counts of forgery (K.S.A. 21-3710). During voir dire defense counsel told the jury that, in a civil case as opposed to a criminal case, "nobody is going to be put in jail, nobody is going to be deprived of his liberty."
