The sole issue presented by this appeal is whether the court properly granted the defendant's motion for summary judgment on that portion of plaintiffs' claim which sought punitive damages.

Plaintiffs commenced their action to recover for personal injuries sustained in an automobile collision with a vehicle operated by the defendant. In addition to compensatory damages they sought punitive damages on the basis that the injuries were caused...
