The State of Louisiana, through the Department of Highways, expropriated for highway purposes a portion of a tract of land owned by the defendants.1 Pursuant to the requirements of La.-R.S. 48:441, et seq., the Department of Highways deposited the sum of $45,198.00 as just compensation for the property taken.
