In 1971 Gregory was sentenced to twenty-five years imprisonment for two separate narcotics violations — conspiracy to violate the narcotics laws and sale of narcotics. On September 19, 1977 he filed a motion under 28 U.S.C. § 2255 to have that sentence vacated.
