Ralph F. Dreitzler was tried and convicted by a jury on twenty-three counts of willfully misapplying bank funds, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 656, and on four counts of making false statements to a bank for the purpose of obtaining loans, contrary to 18 U.S.C. § 1014. Thereafter, the district court granted Dreitzler's motion for judgment of acquittal on the twenty-three misapplication counts, but left intact the jury's verdicts on...
