FAY, Circuit Judge:

This is an appeal by Methodist Hospital and East Jefferson General Hospital from an order and judgment awarding attorneys' fees to plaintiffs as part of the compensatory damages in their action for civil contempt against the hospitals.1 Appellants-hospitals contend that attorneys' fees are not recoverable under Alyeska Pipeline Service Company v. Wilderness Society, 421 U.S. 240
