Plaintiff, Hattie Hanson, brought this action against defendant, Chicago Transit Authority, to recover damages for injuries she claimed to have sustained when fumes from the exhaust system of defendant's bus entered the rear section of the passenger compartment of the bus where she was seated, causing her to suffer carbon monoxide poisoning.
