BARRY, Justice.

This is an appeal by the defendant, Richard E. Corder, from his conviction of the unlawful possession of less than thirty (30) grams of a substance containing heroin in violation of Ill.Rev.Stat.1975, ch. 56½, par. 1402(b). Following the jury's return of a guilty verdict, the defendant was sentenced to a term of imprisonment for not less than two and one-half (2½) nor more than eight (8) years.
