The plaintiffs Russell W. Spitz and Marit Spitz brought this action for a tax refund of $9,896.94, alleging that the Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") incorrectly disallowed deductions claimed by the plaintiffs on their 1969 and 1970 income tax returns.
