Following a jury trial, defendant was convicted of the murder of William Eskridge in violation of section 9-1 of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 38, par. 9-1) and was sentenced to a term of imprisonment of not less than 18 years nor more than 36 years.
