Defendants Jackie Ruffin and Bruce Winters were indicted for the offense of theft from the person, a Class 3 felony, in violation of section 16-1(a)(1) of the Criminal Code (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1973, ch. 38, par. 16-1(a)(1)). After a bench trial both defendants were found guilty as charged and sentenced to two to six years in the Illinois State Penitentiary....
