John Sparano, a guidance counselor in the Bridgeport school system, applied to the Bridgeport Board of Education for sabbatical leave for the academic year 1975—1976. A collective bargaining agreement, then in effect between the Board of Education and the Bridgeport Education Association, made provision for such leave.
