This appeal brings a rare and bizarre set of facts before us. James MacRae (defendant) was tried before a jury for aggravated battery by causing great bodily harm (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1973, ch. 38, par. 12-4(a)), aggravated battery by use of a deadly weapon (par. 12-4(b)(1)) and attempt murder (par. 8-4). He was found guilty...
