On May 18, 1975, while a pedestrian, the plaintiff was struck and injured by an unidentified hit-and-run driver in a 1967 Ford automobile. No one in the plaintiff's household owned a car. Consequently, no one in his household had purchased a no-fault insurance policy. The absence of insurance is only marginally relevant (see fn 4, infra).
