Gary L. Bahr and Melanie Lou Bahr, now Melanie Bahr Galonski, were divorced in Oregon in 1969. Melanie was awarded custody of their children: Trenton, born in 1964, and Stephanie, born in 1969.

Later, both parents returned to Wisconsin where Gary L. Bahr commenced proceedings to have custody of the children transferred to him. On November 14, 1974, the Outagamie county court denied his petition for a change of custody, and he appealed...
