The grand jury of Jefferson County charged the appellant, Henry Lee Tarver, with first degree murder of Ruby McGinnis Sherrod, by shooting her with a pistol. Appellant entered pleas of not guilty, and not guilty by reason of insanity. The jury found the appellant guilty of murder in the first degree and fixed his punishment at life imprisonment.
