Schmiedeskamp died intestate on October 24, 1971, survived by his widow, Nelma Jean Schmiedeskamp (appointed administratrix of his estate), two daughters by a previous marriage, Betty Foster and Judith Reed, both adults, and two daughters by his second marriage, Patricia and Cynthia Schmiedeskamp, both minors.
