On June 16, 1970, following a jury trial with two co-defendants, Anthony V. Vecchiarello and Louis P. Vecchiarello, appellant Maturo was convicted of 22 counts of mail and wire fraud, and nine counts of altering forged documents in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 1341, 1343 (1970), and D.C.Code § 22-1402 (1973).
