The plaintiffs, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Gonzales, brought suit against Winn-Dixie Louisiana, Inc., the operator of a self-service grocery store, and its liability insurer for damages sustained as a result of a fall by Mrs. Gonzales while shopping in the store.
