Defendant, William Barlow, was found guilty of misdemeanor theft in violation of section 16-1(a)(1) of the Illinois Criminal Code of 1961 (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1973, ch. 38, par. 16-1(a)(1)), at a bench trial held on November 21, 1974. Defendant was convicted of the theft of two Siamese cats having a total value of less than $150.
