The State charged the defendant, James T. Strange, with possession of amphetamines contrary to the provisions of LSA-R.S. 40:967. After his trial and conviction by a jury, the judge sentenced him to pay a fine of $300 plus costs, in default thereof to serve sixty days in jail, plus eighteen months imprisonment at hard labor, suspended.
