The defendant was convicted by a jury of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, armed entry into a dwelling house with intent to commit a felony, armed assault with intent to murder, and armed robbery. He was given four concurrent prison sentences, two of them for life, and he appealed under G.L.c. 278, §§ 33A-33G. We granted his application for direct appellate review.
