On August 20, 1976, Craft, an inmate at the United States Penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, was found guilty of violating 18 U.S.C. § 1791 which, along with its related regulation, 28 C.F.R. § 6.1, makes it unlawful to send or attempt to send anything from a federal prison without the knowledge and consent of the Warden.
