HOLMAN, Justice.

These cases involve a dispute between a mother and a father over the custody of their two minor children. The trial court granted custody to the mother and upon appeal the Court of Appeals reversed the trial court and gave custody to the father. 25 Or.App. 579, 550 P.2d 445 (1976). We granted review to determine whether the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act adopted by the 1973 Legislative Session
