This is a petition for a Writ of Habeas Corpus to compel the release of George Jacques from state custody. Jacques was convicted of first degree murder after a four day jury trial in 1974. He was sentenced to the mandatory term of life imprisonment. His conviction was affirmed on direct appeal by the Appellate Division in an unreported opinion. State v.
