Petitioner Willie Massey and two of his brothers, Thomas and Billy Massey, went on trial in New York County on July 26, 1973 for the armed robbery and murder of a York liquor store owner earlier that month. After the prosecution had put up ten witnesses, Billy Massey entered pleas of guilty to both crimes during the second day of trial. Billy then testified for the prosecution...
