CALOGERO, Justice.

Defendant Elbert Stewart was convicted of attempted second degree murder in violation of La.R.S. 14:27 and 14:30.1(1) and was sentenced to twenty years at hard labor. Approximately one month before his trial for attempted second degree murder, defendant was convicted of armed robbery arising out of the same incident. That earlier conviction is also before this Court and is the subject of our companion opinion, State v. Stewart,
