WEATHERBEE, Justice.

On May 14, 1973, the Portland Police received a telephone call from a woman who would not identify herself but stated that there were "strange goings on" at a certain apartment on 658 Congress Street and that the owner was not at home. Approximately five minutes after receiving this cryptic piece of intelligence, four plainclothes detectives arrived at the apartment.
