The sole issue presented by this appeal is whether the trial court committed error in denying the defendant's motion to withdraw his pleas of guilty.

The defendant, Richard A. Giorgio, was charged with two counts of rape in the first degree and four counts of risk of injury in connection with an incident occurring on August 24, 1972. In another case, he was charged with escape from a correctional institution and assault in the second degree....
