In June of 1947, Carolyn Ellingwood (plaintiff) obtained a decree of divorce from Robert Ellingwood (defendant) in the circuit court. The decree directed payment of $40 per month for support of a child and $5 a month for alimony. In August of 1948, plaintiff filed a petition to modify these payments.
