The dispute in this matter arises out of a petition for distribution of the assets of the estate of Alice B. Harville, and focuses on the liability of that estate for old-age assistance granted to the spouse of the decedent. RSA 167:14 (1964) provides that "[t]he estate of every recipient, and the estate of his or her spouse, residing with said recipient, if any, owned severally or as joint tenants, shall be holden for all assistance granted to the recipient...
