The State charged James E. Bernard by bill of information with armed robbery in violation of LSA-R.S. 14:64. The defendant was convicted in March of 1971. The Twenty-fourth Judicial District Court sentenced the defendant to imprisonment for fifteen years. In March of 1973, defendant filed a petition for writ of habeas corpus in the trial court.
