Defendant has applied to dismiss the indictment because of the failure by the Commonwealth to bring the case to trial within 270 days of the filing of the criminal complaint as required by Pa.R.Crim.P. 1100. That rule provides, in pertinent part, as follows:

"Rule 1100 Prompt Trial.

"(a) (1) Trial in a court case in which a written complaint is filed against the defendant after June 30, 1973 but before July 1, 1974 shall...
