The defendant, Richard Hines, was charged by indictment with two counts of aggravated battery. The first count accused him of violating section 12-4(a) of the Criminal Code (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1971, ch. 38, par. 12-4(a)) in that he intentionally and knowingly caused great bodily harm to an individual. The second count charged him with the same offense but committing...
